SALUTATIONS!
"Life Journeys: Seeking Destiny" achievers, Caroline Nderitu (Left), was yesterday awarded the Head of State Commendation (HSC), by President Kibaki. Also, another "Life Journeys: Seeking Destiny" achiever, Prof. Olive Mugenda, Vice Chancellor of Kenyatta University, was awarded the prestigious First Class: Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS), Presidential Award.
"Life Journeys: Scaling Heights" achievers, Vimal Shah (Left), CEO of Bidco, and James Mwangi (Right), CEO of Equity Bank, were both awarded the prestigious First Class: Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear, Presidential Award.
Another "Life Journeys: Scaling Heights" achiever who received an award yesterday was Chairman of KEPSA, Patrick Obath (Below). He was awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear Presidential Award.

The Good "Fellaz".
Dr. Bitange Ndemo, Permanent Secretary, ICT (L), and Joseph Mucheru, Regional Lead Sub-Saharan Africa, Google (R). Both gentlemen are featured in "Life Journeys: Scaling Heights," Conversations with High Achieving Men in Kenya. The great deeds that both of these Technocrats are doing, are not going unnoticed. The following is a story in today's Nation, page 26, in the Business Section.
"High school students are to receive tablet computers as part of a programme to increase access to education and bridge the digital divide.
The programme comes two years after the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) promised to provide primary school children in Kenya with free laptops.
OPLC stalled after giving less than 10 schools laptops with experts saying it was overtaken by the rapidly evolving technology and lack of electricity in many of the schools in the country.
'We are moving to tablet computers. They are cheaper, more agile and mobile,' permanent secretary Information and Communication, Bitange Ndemo, told Daily Nation in an interview.
The project will start within the next six months, once the Ministry of Education approves the gadgets and their content, Dr. Ndemo said.
The goal is to provide very high school student with a tablet computer at a cost between Sh 6,000 and Sh 8,000 to the government.
Create jobs
'This is much cheaper than the technology we had before. The machines are also very durable,' Dr. Ndemo said.
Using solar power, the devices run content sourced from free online archives.
Local educationists will also have a chance to develop material.
'Digitising education will create jobs. We will need people to generate content and to format it for the tablet,' Google's Regional Lead Sub-Saharan Africa, Mr. Joseph Mucheru, said.
Local firms will be invited to fund the project by buying advertising space on the tablets.
Dr. Ndemo is confident that his project will not run into similar pitfalls. 'Tablet technology has evolved from mobile phone technology, which people find easier to use,' he said."

Last month, we highlighted Patrica Sanders, who was named as one of the most powerful celebrities in Africa. However, we would like to apologize for disregarding the other extraordinary Kenyans who were on that list. Eric Wainaina, also our "Life Journeys: Scaling Heights" achiever, came in at number 28 on the list of forty Africans in the upper-echelon of their arts. He was joined by Kenyan authors Binyavanga Wainaina and Ngugi wa Thiongo, who came in 29th and 30th, accordingly. This list was opened up by Chinua Achebe at number 1.

Along on that list are Nigerian entrepreneur, Aliko Dangote, who broke open the list at #1, and our very own Deputy Prime Minister, Uhuru Kenyatta who came in at #26.
